‘Mr. Robot’ season 2 spoilers: What happens next for Elliot, White Rose, and others?

Who would’ve predicted following the finale of “Mr. Robot” on USA Wednesday night that we would be spending so much time talking about the character of White Rose? This is definitely something we did not see coming, but are happy with how it unfolded. This character’s interaction with a member of Evil Corp at a party is fascinating, since it raises questions about their ties, and about what the true endgame is for this character.

You can ponder many of these things, but at the same time you must also ponder what comes next for Elliot himself. Shouldn’t he be happy that fsociety has some notoriety? He may be, but this series is much more complicated than just an emotion. Speaking further on this subject to The Hollywood Reporter in a postmortem, creator Sam Esmail had the following to say:

“I’ve always said that the first season was the first act of my feature, so this is what I meant. I wanted the story of Mr. Robot to be Elliot actually accomplishing his goal, setting the world into chaos. What would happen to society if something like this occurred where, basically, if the consumer debt industry were to be erased? What are the economics of that? What would the world look like? Would there be a revolution? Would governments take over? Would businesses take over? To me, that canvas was something I was interested in exploring so, for me, that’s what that last scene sets up. We’re about to watch Rome burn. That’s the world Elliot’s going to enter next season.”

New episodes of “Mr. Robot” are not going to air until next summer, but you can expect to see more White Rose, more Mr. Robot (Elliot’s awareness of him allows this to be such), and also further piecing together the world that has been created in the aftermath of these hacks and if it is something that Elliot intended. You never know the results of your actions until they are initiated, after all.
