‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 spoilers: The ‘controversy’ of the week
We understand that everyone wants information on “Game of Thrones” season 6. After all, this is one of the best shows on TV, and the season 5 finale pulled some huge moves in making some characters appear very much dead. (SPOILERS ahead.)
Specifically, the two characters we are talking about here are Stannis Baratheon and Jon Snow. For weeks, fans have insisted that Jon is not dead, even to the point where viewers have been trying to see whether or not Kit Harington still has his signature hairstyle while out and about. As for Stannis … let’s just say that a whole lot is being made about innocuous comments from George R.R. Martin in his LiveJournal page.
Here, Martin “confirms” in a response to fans that in the books, Stannis is alive “beyond a doubt.” What does this really mean for viewers of the show? Despite what some sites are trying to make it out to be right now, absolutely nothing … and for a few reasons:
1. In the books going into A Winds of Winter, Stannis is behind where he is right now in the show.
2. Martin may be speaking from the perspective of where the character is right now, and not where he is going to be at the end of the night book.
3. Ultimately, the show and the books are completely different entities at this point. While the spirit of Martin’s books is still being kept, the content is going to change across mediums.
