‘Mistresses’ season 3 finale spoilers: Hard times ahead in ‘Goodbye Girl’

Thursday night on ABC, you are going to have a chance to watch the penultimate episode of “Mistresses” season 3 … but we’re going to take a minute here and look a little bit beyond that.

The photo above is one of the first ones revealed for the finale entitled “Goodbye Girl,” and you have to hope that this does not mean some terrible times are ahead for Vivian. Nobody should want to see her go out like this, and there’s something so awful about the timing of everything right now. Ultimately, we are getting this same rough news about Vivian at the same exact time that Karen is finding out some big news of her own, and it is such a bizarre parallel of life and death that is not the sort of heady stuff you often get on this show.

Is it possible that you get some conclusiveness to this story in the finale? Maybe, but regardless of if we are talking about Karen, Joss, Calista, or April, this is not a show that likes to tie things together neatly. Even though the show’s future is in doubt when it comes to the ratings, this show would be rather dull if it were to just end everything neatly. If you leave people wanting more, doesn’t that raise your renewal odds somewhat?
