‘Outlander’ season 2 spoilers: Important book character (finally) being cast!
We’re going to start this article off with a giant SPOILER WARNING: If you have not read the Diana Gabaldon books or are just very shy about scoop related to “Outlander,” stop reading now. We don’t think that this information will pact your enjoyment of the show, but we don’t want to send anyone after us with pitchforks in the comments for not giving proper warning.
Still with us? Then look below for the big news coming out today.
As first reported by TVLine, the Starz series is currently casting the role of Brianna Randall, the 20-year old daughter of Jamie and Claire Fraser. She is tall, red-haired, and described by the casting notice as “strong-minded, intelligent beyond her years with an effortless charm and sparkling sense of humor (traits inherited from both her mother and father. She also has a scholastic mindset, with a healthy dose of American strength, having been born and bred in Boston under the watchful eye of professor and historian Frank Randall.”
So how in the world is she in the show’s Frank Randall timeline? That is something we’re not going to give away here, but one of the big surprises here comes via the following part of the notice: “Brianna has secretly followed her mother back in time to find the father she never met and the family she never knew.” Book fans know that this is not a part of Dragonfly in Amber (which is the basis for most of season 2), but instead one of the other books in the series.
Why introduce this story thread now? It may be a desire to mix things up to surprise fans, or it may just be a move to ensure that Brianna is a part of the action sooner rather than later.
