Jon Stewart scores first post-‘Daily Show’ gig: Hosting WWE’s SummerSlam
There were a lot of different directions that we could have seen Jon Stewart go in after his time on “The Daily Show” came to a close. With that being said, this is not a route that we considered him going down in the slightest.
Today, it was announced via USA Today that the comedian, a longtime WWE fan, is going to appear as the host for the upcoming “SummerSlam” event on Sunday, which will air on the WWE Network and will allow for a variety of big-name matches over the course of several hours. This is not the first time that Stewart has been associated with the organization. He had a fun feud-of-sorts with wrestler Seth Rollins earlier this year, and later Rollins made a brief appearance on “The Daily Show.” Jon also showed up briefly in an episode of “RAW,” and ran away after pulling a classic kick-someone-in-the-crotch move. It’s virtually a tiny comedian’s only line of self-defense.
Ultimately, it’s a surprise choice for Stewart to take on a hosting gig for a wrestling show, but in many ways we understands it. Jon always wanted to be remembered more as a comedian than a political figure, and this is a way to distance himself a little bit more from that persona and onto something strictly fun.
Ultimately, we’ll just have to see if anything crazy comes out of this, but we will most definitely do our part to let you know.
