‘After Paradise’ review: JJ Lane, Juelia Kinney, James Gunn, and Jason Biggs
It took the “Bachelor in Paradise” aftershow “After Paradise” tonight a good three minutes to become interesting, mostly because JJ Lane dropped the f-bomb on live TV for everyone to hear. Tremendously awkward watching Chris Harrison not react to it. For some reason, we went from loathing this guy to loving him within two seasons. Maybe it’s because he did have such a foil on this show in Joe Bailey who everyone hated. If there was ever a smart point made by guest James Gunn tonight, this was really it.
Curse words aside, this episode really proved that in some ways, JJ was redeemed somewhat as a hero in the eyes of Bachelor Nation, and he also has a pretty good sense of humor about himself. Also, he stood up for himself after being openly mocked for that tattoo.
Of course, by the end of the night JJ probably buried his reputation again by talking smack about Megan, Joshua, and a few others over the course of the night. The truth is, we think that he actually likes being the villain and being this sort of larger-than-life cartoon character. It’s more his speed. He doesn’t know what to do with the “good guy” label. This was so fascinating to us, mostly because he’d go from saying something sweet to something kind of awful in a span of a few minutes.
As for the Juelia Kinney segment, the best thing that we can say about it is that we feel for her. We don’t think it is necessarily anywhere near as compelling television, but that’s no mark against her as a person. She was just on the show seemingly for a singular reason, and really got her heart smashed courtesy of Joe’s actions.
