NBC has no regrets of ‘Aquarius’ season 2 renewal

We’ve spent a lot of time as of late wondering if there were going to be any consequences when it comes to putting “Aquarius” on Saturday night in terms of its season 2 renewal, and it appears that, for now, there are none at all.

While speaking at TCA’s Summer Press Tour this past week, NBC’s programming head Robert Greenblatt made it fairly clear that he had no plans whatsoever to second-guess giving the show more episodes, saying largely that there was no reason to question something renewed on the basis of quality.

What is just as interesting to us here is the revelation that binge-watching of the show online has only made up a small percentage of the overall viewing, so there goes all of those theories that are out there about potentially big ratings in that measure helping in some way to get it brought back for another season. Is NBC going to abandon putting all of the episodes of season 2 online as a result? Yes and no. There are probably not going to be “Aquarius” episodes put online early next season, but mostly because they will probably not all be ready in time. It’s a little bit of a different situation than NBC just making a decision when it comes to their philosophy.

Ultimately, we are curious to see what the network decides to do with this show, which is certainly a victim of low ratings and was paired up recently with “Hannibal” on Saturdays. Maybe they find a more successful series to pair it with, since that could allow it to have at least slightly better numbers when the dust settles.
