‘Mistresses’ season 3, episode 10 review: Joss enters an alternate reality
For the most part, we have to issue a collective groan at these whole sliding-doors episodes that have the lengthy “what if” storylines. Occasionally, these can be good if you are finding out either some important character information, or if this is some sort of way to bring back someone who has not been a part of the show in a while.
Unfortunately in the case of “Mistresses” Thursday night, we had a case were neither of these things were really taking place. “What Could Have Been” was instead somewhat of a time-waster in that through Joss’ cell discussions, we saw her go on a lengthy tale about how she could have been the perfect life had she married Scott and they would have had money and success. However, at the same exact time, she would have eventually run to Harry anyway. So what was the point of this, other than to make her realize that it would have been a disaster either way? We’re not so sure.
At least there seems to be some better news for Joss courtesy of Daniel and by extension April, as there’s some newfound evidence that could at least get her on the road to being a free woman in the murder of Luca.
Meanwhile, Karen is pregnant! She is in the process of trying to figure out what to do as a result of this, and we feel for her given that there probably are not very many people out there who can relate to her very specific (and very unusual) set of circumstances.
We’re not going to refer to this episode as an entire waste of time, since the April / Daniel story was strong and we are sympathetic for Karen. However, we really don’t think you should do the “what if” story unless you get an Alyssa Milano return. Otherwise, what’s the point? Grade: C+.
