‘Pretty Little Liars’ summer finale reaction: Vanessa Ray on CeCe Drake surprise

On Tuesday night’s “Pretty Little Liars” finale, the truth finally came out about who was secretly Charles / “A,” and the answer just so happens to be a big surprise: CeCe Drake. This is a woman who had not actually made an appearance on the show since the Christmas Special, and the show did a very good job of hiding that it was really her underneath the famed hood.

For Vanessa Ray, having this secret had to be quite a burden, but the surprise to us is mostly that she did not have to keep it as long as you would think. According to a new video that was posted by ABC Family (view here), she was actually not even told that she was “A” until after getting the script for the summer finale “Game Over, Charles.” From here, she started getting messages from creator Marlene King to read it, and then be sure to contact her if there were any questions. What she thought could have been just a brief one-episode gig turned out to be so much more.

Ray does not mention what her future on “Pretty Little Liars” could be moving forward, and that is an interesting question given that she is a major character on “Blue Bloods,” and that show requires a pretty big commitment. Not only that, but she films that show in New York, while “Pretty Little Liars” is in Los Angeles. Hopefully the timing worked out thanks to when “Pretty Little Liars” films that they were able to at least use her a little bit more this summer, or maybe she’ll find another window to appear.

One thing we do know for sure now is that with CeCe as the mastermind, we have to know more about her story moving forward. Anything else would be a bummer.
