‘Fargo’ season 2 spoilers: Show boss on setting, influence of the time
While executive producer Noah Hawley chose this particularly setting for a clear reason, he made it very clear speaking to reporters at the TCA Summer Press Tour this week that he is not just trying to get everyone in bell bottoms doing the disco around the town. Per IGN, this is some of what he had to say:
“[The ’70s have] been done a lot but not really in this region … The Midwest in the ’70s hasn’t really been explored that much. It’s different culturally. You know, disco didn’t sweep the nation in the same way as it did on the coasts. These are still very hardworking people who, you know, just happen to be living in the ’70s. I didn’t just want the year to be the backdrop against which we told the story. I wanted to try to find a way to take the American experience at that moment and try to turn it into a crime story that really was evocative of that time.”
Hawley was also praise the work of Bruce Campbell, who is the first person on the show playing a real historical figure in Ronald Reagan. He referred to some of the work that he has done so far as “awesome,” and that should give you yet another reason to be excited over this show.
