‘True Detective’ season 2 finale spoilers: Finding the killer, and the villain’s true reach
As frustrating as “True Detective” season 2 may be to some of you out there (and we understand that), you can at least take a little bit of solace in one particular thing: The fact that the show will give you Caspere’s killer in one way or another by the end. They’re not just going to dance around with some bizarre lines akin to the Sphinx from “Mystery Men.”
The title for this particular episode is “Omega Station,” which is to us emblematic ultimately of two separate things: The end (hence of course the Greek alphabet), and also the word “station,” being a spot of an end or a beginning. It also ties into the show’s high-speed rail theme that has been underneath the surface of almost everything … though you may not think about it much thanks to the shootouts and all of the other insanity that has pervaded through the story the past several weeks.
Today, HBO released their official synopsis for the finale, and as you would expect, it is almost completely vague and gives next to nothing away about the story:
“Frank (Vince Vaughn), Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ani (Rachel McAdams) weigh their options as Caspere’s killer and the scope of corruption are revealed.”
With the death of Paul on this past episode, it is clearly not lost on anyone that there is also now a heavy personal component to this story, as well. Finding out if there is a way to seek vengeance through justice will more than likely be a key theme here.
