‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ set to be donated
In just over 24 hours, the finale for “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” will air. Given that this show has been a huge part of the TV landscape for a solid decade and a half, we imagine there will be big ratings, and of course plenty of attention given. This could be one of the highest-rated broadcasts in the history of Comedy Central.
Even before this final episode airs, though, we are already starting to get a sense as to a particular part of the show’s legacy. Namely, we’re talking here about where the set will be donated once the show is over. The Newseum in Washington DC has announced that they will house the set, which will be promptly taken down once it ends. That’s the thing about TV: Nothing really stays the same for long. A new set has to be built, as the network is preparing to shake things up already for Trevor Noah.
In announcing this news, Cathy Trost, the senior vice president of exhibits and programs at the Newseum, had the following to say:
“We are thrilled to accept the donation of these artifacts to the Newseum collection … They are part of America’s cultural and media history, telling an important story about how political satire and news as humor made ‘The Daily Show’ a trusted news source for a generation.”
Tonight’s penultimate episode of “The Daily Show” is going to feature Louis CK as the special guest, and we imagine that there will be a variety of great mystery guests in store for the finale Thursday. Sure, some of them will probably leak early, but we hope that they won’t.
