2015 Emmy exclusive: Finn Wittrock on nomination, excitement for ‘American Horror Story’ co-stars
How is Finn Wittrock feeling about his Supporting Actor in a Limited Series Emmy nomination this morning for “American Horror Story: Freak Show“? Suffice it to say, he has plenty of reasons to smile. So how did he learn about getting it? “My wife was watching [for the nominations], and I was like ‘I’m going to go make eggs, tell me what happens’,” Finn told us this morning about his process leading up to this nomination. “… She spent a long time [trying to find the nominees] on the website, and then it was kind of an out-of-nowhere scream.”
We spoke with Wittrock briefly via phone this morning to talk about some of the other nominations for the show (see full list here), what he is the most looking forward to, and some other topics.
CarterMatt – How did you feel when you saw Jessica [Lange], Sarah [Paulson], Kathy [Bates], and so many others nominated for the show? That had to be wonderful.
Finn Wittrock – I know! And the show itself, and Ryan too. It’s so excited! When I was shooting the show I felt it was such a cool group to be a part of, and now that it’s been a few months since we stopped shooting it’s kind of a cool reminder of how special it was and is.
Are you prepared now for the next couple of months? You’ve been done with this character for a while, and now you’re going to be talking about Dandy once again in a variety of different ways.
(Laughs) You know, I can never get sick of talking about Dandy! It is always funny because it happens so long after the fact. By the time the Emmys come it will be over a year after I first started shooting. I feel like I’ve lived with him a long time; I hate to say that I almost miss him.
What are you looking forward to the most from being at the Emmys?
The afterparty! With the Critics’ Choice Awards [earlier this year] I feel like I’ve been to a lot of shows or afterparties, and it’s nice to be there and feel like you’re included. It’s nice to be there for a good reason!
Are there some other nominees that you are particularly excited about?
There are other people nominated outside of our show? (Laughs.) No, I’m glad that ‘Bloodline’ is getting some [recognition]. I thought that was very well-deserved. I’m a huge fan of [fellow category nominee] Bill Murray [for ‘Olive Kitteridge’]. He deserves everything he’s getting.
Finally, how are things going on ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’?
It’s good so far! We’re just beginning, but I’m excited to do more crazy stuff.
