‘Teen Wolf’ season 5, episode 4 review: Stiles in danger; a body burns; the Dread Doctors take hold
There are villains aplenty on “Teen Wolf” season 5, but to go along with that, there is also mystery and plenty of it. Are the Dread Doctors a book of evil, an apparition, or something else entirely?
The biggest thing that we know for the time being is that clearly they are bad news, and they took another victim whose condition was “terminal” tonight in Lucas. No matter what Kira tried to do in order to save him from his face, nothing really worked. It was a matter of trying to do a lot in a short amount of time, and her and Scott continually are so far a step behind. That burning body scene, though? Incredibly cool.
What we also learned through this episode is that there is someone else you are meant to in many ways hate just as much as these Doctors: Theo, who managed to convince Donovan to go after someone Sheriff Stilinski cares about, and that means Stiles. The cliffhanger tonight revolves around the character being stabbed. We don’t think that the producers would kill off this character in such a way so early, but crazier things have definitely happened. Don’t be surprised if they do try something that raises an eyebrow or two.
By the time we make it to the end of the episode, we’re left feeling somewhat disoriented and stunned. Lydia seems to be okay despite her hospitalization, but nobody is really on that stable footing given that we have threats, traitors, and villains in the midst. We don’t even understand what their motive is completely.
For now, allow us to at least say that this may be the most frightening season of “Teen Wolf” we’ve seen in some time. What makes the Dread Doctors great is that since they don’t have to rely so heavily on CGI, they appear somewhat realistic, and it is easier to be tangibly afraid of them. Grade: B.
