‘Major Crimes’ season 4, episode 6 review: Provenza makes a big move

The formula of “Major Crimes” at the moment tends to follow what we have come to know as a fairly basic formula. We learn a thing or two about one of the cast members, while at the same time see them tackle a case.

The main message that we took away from the case tonight was mostly just, yet again, that not every mystery is going to be solved. It really cannot be. Tonight’s was particularly frustrating given that Raydor and the team had the hunches to put away Mallory over a complicated case that involved multiple people from her past and paternity, but the problem was that they did not have the evidence, and she had an attorney that knew when to tell her to be quiet and not give away any more information.

On the more personal front, it was Provenza tonight who really got some time in the spotlight as he and Patrice made a big move. He managed to get Rusty to help move some of his things to storage so that she would have some room, which was a little bit different than the original plan. However, at the same time we learned at the end of the episode that she roughly did the same thing. What are we meant to take from this: A reverence for the past, or a reluctance to move too far away from it? Maybe it is a little bit of both, but it is hard to read a whole lot into this situation at the moment based solely on what we know. We do feel like it all seems to be okay in the end, and there was a rather sweet conclusion to the story.

While this wasn’t the best episode of the season, are we really one to quibble with a Provenza story? Hardly. Grade: B-.
