‘Homeland’ season 5 spoilers: First promo features Claire Danes, simple proclamation
“I just want to do good work.”
If nothing else, Carrie Mathison is a woman with simple goals. This is what the character (played wonderfully by Claire Danes) states in the latest promo for “Homeland” season 5, which is coming to Showtime a little later this fall. This is an intense, emotional thirty seconds that ends with Carrie getting kidnapped. That is hardly the most surprising move in the history of television (she always tends to get out of it), but we do appreciate much of the effort nonetheless. This promo is ultimately just as mysterious as the season ahead, but even in spite of what was a pretty negatively-received season 4 finale, we have the utmost confidence that the show will still get ratings and plenty of attention at the same time.
While we have heard a variety of different casting reports (including one that just came out yesterday), here is what we know officially about the story.
1. Several years have passed since the end of season 4.
2. Carrie is now living in Europe, and is no longer with the CIA.
3. Saul is going to have a position of greater power again, presumably.
4. The entirety of the new season is being filmed in Germany, making this the first time that a major TV show in America has filmed in the country for this period of time.
5. Peter Quinn will return, but his specific role in the story is unclear. Is there really hope romantically for him and Carrie, or were they together more out of circumstance?
