MTV places full ‘Scream’ premiere online; see first ratings!

Scream -MTV really wants to turn “Scream” into a success story. Is it ever going to be the same titan as the feature film series? Probably not, but we certainly feel like they probably want it to perform a little bit better than the show did for its premiere episode Tuesday.

When you consider all of the hype and the franchise name attached to it, getting slightly over 1 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic has to be a disappointment. These are tiny fractions of what “American Horror Story” tends to draw on FX, and “Teen Wolf” also defeated it despite airing in an unusual timeslot on a new night. Maybe the network predicted that the show wasn’t going to draw 3 million viewers or a 1.0 in the demo, but this at least surprises us.

Maybe the network putting the entire series premiere on YouTube (see below) is a way to try to get some other people hooked. We know that there are many bored people on the internet looking for something to do, and this is a way to kill 45 minutes without having to jump through hoops or pay for anything. Don’t expect it for the rest of the series, but this is a smart way to draw in some extra people who maybe did not watch the show when it first came on the air for some reason. It will be hard to bring in YouTube viewers to the actual live viewing of the show, but it’s worth a shot … right?

New episodes of “Scream” will continue airing on Tuesday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. Want to see a trailer for everything that lies ahead? Then head over to the link here!
