‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Could there be movie after series finale

What's up next? -We are in the golden age of television in so many ways, but to go along with that, we would also argue that we may very well in the golden age of milking franchises for just about everything that they are worth.

So for “Downton Abbey,” could this mean potentially following the show up with a movie? We hope that “Entourage’s” recent disappointment at the box office discourages some of this; we understand wanting more of a good thing, but simultaneously we have been rather critical of the notion of changing up mediums. Something that begins in television really should for the most part remain in television, and we don’t really need to see it making any big crossovers to the big screen with a different budget and aesthetic.

For the time being, show creator Julian Fellowes has not even finished writing the series finale, so that is his top priority. With that said, he did say the following to Deadline saying that while it is unlikely at the moment, it is not out of the realm of possibility:

“At the moment there isn’t but you never know. Or a stage show or anything else. So I think to have them all killed in a bus (in the finale) would be a mistake. I think we bring various things to a conclusion and anything unresolved is unresolved. I’m open to the idea of a movie but I’m not anxious to do it. In my experience, and naming no names, the movie of the series is often a disappointment. Normally they’re not very good because the film producer says, ‘Oh, it’s not going to be anything like the series,’ and of course what you want is for it to be exactly like the series. I hope we would avoid that error in doing one, but I do have mixed feelings about it.”

We would be surprised if anything else comes out of the show, and mostly because we seem to be getting the general sentiment that most with the show are okay with just moving on, and allowing this world to just stand on its own.
