‘Orphan Black’ season 4: Premiere date speculation, future of Tatiana Maslany series
While you may not love it, it does not make it any less true that come tonight, “Orphan Black” will be off of the air for almost a good ten months. This show, like “Game of Thrones,” feels almost blink-and-you’ll-miss-it. This is what happens when you only do ten episodes a season.
Should the series consider expanding beyond that? We understand why some would want that, but at the same time it’s a difficult proposition here. This is not akin to “Empire” going from 12 to 18 episodes; that show has an enormous cast. While Tatiana Maslany has help from Ari Millen and others, she is still the bulk of the show and this is an extremely demanding job. We’d rather not see her completely exhausted, and ten episodes leaves us wanting more.
As for the most likely premiere date, we’d suggest that it may be Saturday, April 16 or maybe the following weekend on the 23rd. This is the same window of the past two seasons, and there’s no real reason to change it up.
As for moving it off of Saturdays, why do that at this point? It may not be an ideal time for many shows to air, but at least there is less competition and many viewers who have BBC America may also have a DVR. It just feels like sticking it on a more competitive night, especially when you remember that it is on a smaller network, may contribute to it getting lost for the small handful of people who watch the show casually. We imagine that almost everyone else is diehard.
