‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Exec on the series finale feeling settling in
While the final scenes of “Downton Abbey” (i.e. the last Christmas Special) have not necessarily been filmed just yet, it is something at this point that is clearly on the horizon. By the time the summer ends, the six-season British television masterpiece will be over. This has become an international institution, and Emmy darling, and a launching pad for many actors. Just look at some of the roles that Lily James and Dan Stevens have already landed.
So has the cast and crew really had that much time to process the end just yet? As you would expect, it is hard when you are in the thick of production and you have to get through the work day. With that being said, executive producer Gareth Neame tells GoldDerby that he knows some emotional moments are coming in time:
“I think it’s only beginning to dawn on people that the end is nigh. It’s not going to sink in until we shoot each actor’s final scene or we shoot the last scene at Highclere Castle. As we applaud off each character on their last scene will be quite moving.”
For the most part, all we are really hoping for from the final season is a little bit of hope that some of these characters have happy futures. We’re not looking for anything definitive or really stuck in fantasy land; we just want to know that there are still reasons to think that all of the time spent watching the show was worthwhile.
