‘Girl Meets World’ episode 8 reaction: Series boss on Angela – Shawn decision
Clearly, tonight’s episode of “Girl Meets World” is one of the bigger ones for longtime fans of the original series, mostly because it informed us that, to quote a Taylor Swift, Shawn and Angela re probably never, ever getting back together. She is now married, and by the end of the episode, Shawn used his experience communicating with her to realize that he really needed to move on. Dating Maya’s mother Katy may be a great chance to do so.
We admit that we choked up a little by the end of the half-hour, seeing the ghost of Shawn’s father Chet turn up to give him some advice on taking the lead and not living in fear. Of course, there are probably still some questions out there for fans, like why the producers decided not to pair up Shawn and his “Boy Meets World” girlfriend on this show.
Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Michael Jacobs offered up what is a pretty strong take on the decision:
“Shawn’s relationship with Angela Moore had clearly ended in the original show, but … Shawn is the only person Angela trusts to help her make an important decision. In answering for Angela, Shawn also discovers something about himself, Riley and Maya. We all want these characters happy. Angela is. Shawn isn’t. The way it was and has always been.”
Within the world of this show, we do feel like finding a way to attach Shawn to the other major characters is the best move that can be made. That may not necessarily make it true to some within the “Boy Meets World” canon, but we are interested to see how this new story shakes out.
