‘Big Brother 17’ cast spoilers: Is victory in the cards for Vanessa Rousso?

“Big Brother” likes to have at least one pseudo-famous person on the show every season, and this time around we’ve got Vanessa Rousso. She is a professional poker player / DJ, and someone who is reasonably well-known within that community given that she has played on TV before. In most situations we would say that this is not something that would really be a big deal, since poker is more of a niche game. However, there is someone else in the house in Da’Vonne Rogers who is a poker dealer! Given how much work she’s done in that field in with what clientele, we’re not ruling that one.

Anyhow, Vanessa claims that she’ll just be pretending to be a DJ unless someone calls her out on something otherwise. (For the record, Da’Vonne is also going to hide her job.)

First Impression – Vanessa has the tools to be really great at this. She’s super-smart, calculating, and she knows how to read people. There are social skills that you learn from poker that apply well in this game. More than that, though, she’s not going to be an immediate physical threat to anyone, and if she plays her cards right (sorry for the pun), she could conceal her skills for a long period of time until she makes it far.

Worst Impression – What we wonder here is whether or not Vanessa is almost too cool for school here. She’s got a really chill demeanor, she knows who she is, and she has a pretty particular sense of style. Is she really going to take part in the silly shenanigans?

One of the other things we have to remember is that being a poker player does not equal success. Remember Garrett on “Survivor,” and while Kevin did better on “Big Brother Canada,” he was a target almost the entire game.
