‘The Today Show’ lands first interview with Rachel Dolezal after NAACP resignation
Over the past week or so, most of the internet has taken notice of the story of Rachel Dolezal, a leader of an NAACP chapter who pretended to be of African-American descent in order to preside over many key issues. It was her parents who ended up revealing and discussing her lineage in interviews, and following the media attention she decided to resign, feeling that her story had become a distraction to some of her causes.
We figured that she would be getting a chance to tell her story at some place soon after this, and now that has been revealed to be NBC’s “Today.” Dolezal will be speaking out on Tuesday morning in an interview with Matt Lauer to discuss why she chose to conceal her ethnicity, and whether or not she feels as though it matters if she continues to serve the goals of the organization.
Given the number of opinions that have already surfaced on this story, we are sure even more will after tomorrow … and we will of course have some further coverage almost every step of the way.
For “Today,” getting the interview is a very key coup for them, given that they continue to battle extensively their rival “Good Morning America” in the ratings. These two shows are constantly in competition to get whoever is in the news on a given day; “Today” does a good job for the most part of handling these breaking stories, with our only regret being that there is always a limited amount of time to deal with the stories.
