Ratings: ‘America’s Got Talent,’ ‘iZombie’ finale dinged by NBA Finals
The NBA Finals are never something you want to be up against in the ratings. While basketball may not be for everyone out there, this is still something that draws huge numbers at a time when there is probably a smaller pool of viewers than at any other point during the year. It’s summer! There are a lot of other things that many people want to do at around this time, whether it be go outside or have a vacation for a few days.
The ratings last night were an indication that regardless of whatever it was, something was making an impact on the traditional programming. “America’s Got Talent” slipped slightly to a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, while the finale of “iZombie” fell to a new series low with a 0.5. We hope that the latter is an indication more of it being summer and it having no lead-in, since if the show draws these sort of numbers in the fall with “The Flash” airing before it, we anticipate it getting moved to somewhere else in the schedule. The CW has high expectations for that spot, higher at least than what they have for a night such as Monday or Friday.
As for “AGT,” it will most definitely be fine. While we know that paying Howard Stern and the judging panel eats up a ton of cash, there are still more expensive shows out there, and it has a huge audience still that supports it year after year. Because it is not just about singers and dancers, it is a little more immune to the death of the singing show craze.
We’ll have some more ratings throughout the week, and we’ll get a better chance to assess the damage of the NBA Finals.
