‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: Early themes; also, other revelations
The ATX Television Festival is to us become more and more of a forum for wonderful conversation on the medium; also, it’s a chance for Austin’s restaurants to remind people how awesome that they are.
For fans of “The Vampire Diaries,” there was quite a bit of cool stuff in general to come out of a discussion featuring Kevin Williamson and his longtime collaborator Julie Plec, who has evolved into a major force of her own with three shows on The CW (“Containment” is premiering at midseason) to go along with being a writer and a new director. One of the biggest surprises is that it was Plec who actually pushed Williamson to give adapting this show a chance, after he initially balked at the idea. Eventually, the two did come up with a feeling and a tone for the show to have, and the rest is very clearly now history.
One other interesting discussion point, per TVLine, revolved around whether or not turn Chris Wood (Kai) into a series regular. The actor and Plec spoke about the possibility, but they each decided that it would be best were the character not someone who could be so easily redeemed. This is an issue that the show has had in some ways by keeping people around who start off very much in the villain mold.
In talking about season 7, one of the main interests for the series is going to become “finding family,” which makes some sense given that Damon and Stefan Salvatore (two brothers) are now the anchors of the show. Nina Dobrev is gone, and sense the only way to bring her back would seem to be killing off Bonnie, we don’t see that happening anytime soon.
