MTV’s ‘Scream’ series showcases first photo of new mask!
We’re still trying to figure out for the most part why MTV is making such a bold move as to remake “Scream.” This is one of the most-iconic horror movie franchises out there, and it feels like the fans are going to be very hard to please. As a matter of fact, your best hope is probably just going to be to get an entirely new group of people on board, and then hope for the best that they are all interested in what you bring to the table.
The series is premiering come June 30, and today the network revealed their new version of the mask for the first time. You can see that below from Entertainment Weekly, and while it clearly has some similarities to the iconic Ghostface mask from the movies, there are a few notable differences. The jaw is not nearly as stretched out, and there are of course those brown parts that look like the mask is almost strapped to your face. We’re not entirely sure what to think about that, unless it is some mechanism to ensure that someone just can’t come up to you and rip the mask off.
Here is what executive producer Jaime Paglia had to say to the website in response to people wondering why they didn’t just reuse the mask that everyone knows already from the films:
“The [original] mask is so iconic. If you were to have that mask in a television series, but you weren’t following any of the characters [from the original], I believe that would be misleading the audience.”
We’ll have more on this series as we get closer to it premiering on the network, but would you say at the moment that you are excited?
