‘Mistresses’ season 3: The cast hits the beach in new photo!

Is there a silver lining to there being a major cast shakeup on “Mistresses“? We imagine so, provided that you do like to see new official cast photos. This is not something that networks tend to invest in every season, and they often tend to do so whenever they absolutely need to, such as when a show first starts or when there is a major change that necessitates it. With Alyssa Milano gone and Jennifer Esposito in, now certainly appears to be the right time. (The photo to the left comes via TVLine.)

Granted, we still feel like they could have come up with something a little flashier here. The beach setting is nice and ultimately pretty appropriate given how much it has played a part in title sequences and other images related to the show. However, it feels to us a little too obvious that the women all took these photos at different times and they were just all imposed in there together. We’d rather see something a little cheerier, where everyone is happy to be in the same place around each other. It would at least feel a little more natural. (We’ve had a similar problem here with some other ABC cast photos over the years, in particular a recent “Castle” one that made it look like there were characters randomly standing in the middle of a bridge.)

Interestingly, we actually think that this image (which is a cropped version of the poster released for the show) is so much better. The ocean is more vibrant, and while it’s still possible that the photos of the individual cast were added in separately, it definitely doesn’t feel that way. Plus, everyone appears to be pretty happy! Who wouldn’t want to smile at the beach?
