‘Community’ season 7 could still happen; Yahoo talking with Sony Pictures TV
When we first heard Yahoo talking potentially about keeping “Community” beyond a sixth season, we have to admit that we thought they were a little bit crazy. We’re at the point now where keeping cast members around can be more difficult, especially when they have other projects. Also, there’s the general feeling among some that “six seasons and a movie” should be the way that this is done when the dust settles.
Yet, we’re now hearing now that there could still be a future for the former NBC comedy, at least based on some discussions that are underway right now. Speaking per Deadline, a Yahoo spokesperson had the following to say about the show’s future:
“With the season six finale of Community airing today, we’re continually excited by how much fans are engaging with the series. Now that all episodes are available for binge viewing, stay tuned for how we keep Community delighting its fans.”
One option that we wonder if the show would consider is making a model that is similar to “Arrested Development,” one where you rotate the cast members across several episodes, and give you some updates on what all of them are up to. It’d be a big shift for the show, but if you want to continue the show and actors have other commitments, it is something to consider. Another option could be renewing the show for just a few episodes, and then packaging them together and creating something that could be akin to a movie.
Hopefully, we’ll have more to share soon.
