‘True Detective’ season 2: Are Vince Vaughn’s recent comments the right sort of publicity?
The second season of “True Detective” is going to be premiering on HBO come June 21, and for the most part, Vince Vaughn is expected to be one of the biggest draws in terms of getting the show big ratings.
However, at the moment we are left to wonder something else entirely: Is this guy really the sort of draw that the show wants at all? The actor gave an interview to the British version of GQ, and in it he made a very shocking statement when asked whether or not Americans should have guns in schools:
“Of course. You think the politicians that run my country and your country don’t have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do. And we should be allowed the same rights. Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won’t rid the world of criminality.”
We’re not going to talk so much about the politics of what Vaughn said (this is not that sort of site), what we do have to wonder right now is whether or not this was the right way to promote the show. Will it bring more attention to the show? Inevitably, yes, but at the same time these are polarizing opinions that are going to anger some out there. One of the last things that you want to do is create a situation where your opinion is somehow imposed on the show itself.
