‘Big Brother Canada 3’ exclusive: Ashleigh Wood on votes vs. Godfrey, tight alliances, and Brittnee’s power

Ashleigh -Going into Wednesday night’s “Big Brother Canada” finale, it seemed like Ashleigh Wood had a pretty great chance to win the game. She had the votes from the Diaper Alliance for one, and she was probably going to get a little bit of love from Bruno and maybe Bobby had she made it that far. Unfortunately for her, she fell at the very end when Godfrey evicted her over Sarah.

We had a chance to speak in full with Ashleigh about a variety of different things earlier today, including some of the specific vote count if she made it to the end, her ties with Zach and Pilar, and also just how she is adjusting now that she has been out of the game for a good half a day.

CarterMatt – Let’s start with something fairly basic: How have the past 12 hours been for you since getting out of the game? What have you learned about the game that has surprised you?

Ashleigh Wood – The past 12 hours have been absolutely hectic. So much has been going on, and there has been almost no downtime. What surprised me the most were the secrets that I’ve learned about the players that I was playing with! Like Kevin is a professional poker player, and Bobby lying about his virginity, weird things that I found out. You think you know these people so well, and you don’t. It’s weird.

Did you know at all about Godfrey being a psychology student?

I knew nothing about him being a psychology student at all. I thought the IRS, the Raccoon Society, any other thing could be true! It’s so weird that you think that nobody would come up with that. It has to be true.

When you have someone who is kind of mysterious like Godfrey, or really anyone for that matter, how much time do you tend to spend in the house thinking about what they could be lying to you about?

All the time. It’s exhausting to have to question everybody all the time. Being out here now, even having conversations [with them], you still wonder if they’re lying [before you remind yourself] that this is real time! (Laughs.) There’s no reason to lie to me anymore. It’s weird to see people being honest.

One of the things that I think you did the best at in the game was continuously having allies around you, especially people who were bigger targets than you. How did you work to facilitate that?

Honestly, playing with the Chop Shop it was big personalities right off the bat. Bobby was the one that got me involved in the Chop Shop. He just said ‘there’s an alliance, and we want you to be a part of it,’ and I was like ‘okay cool, why not.’ You’re not going to turn down an alliance! You don’t want to put a big target on your back. They were big personalities and they came to me.

… Then, when I realized that people were started to gun after them and that they were not going to last very long, that’s when I kind of gravitated more towards the Diaper Alliance. I knew how to trust people and the people you gravitate towards before you make an alliance, and not how to make an alliance and then learn to trust them. I did it a little backwards [at first]. I did it right the second time.

I think everyone wants to know this: Who can we blame for the name ‘Diaper Alliance’?

Jordan! (Laughs.)

Let’s get into something you’ve probably been asked several times. Final two [is] you and Godfrey. Who wins? Have you asked around?

We discussed this, and if I had been the one to win the [final competition] and taken Godfrey, I would have had a lot of the final votes. If Godfrey had taken me, it would have been a lot closer than Sarah annihilating him 7-2. I think I still had him beat, but it would have been around 5-4.

Okay, so Godfrey probably should have taken you.

Probably! He still would have lost; however, his chances would have been better.

He also said that he was really afraid of showmances when he voted you out. What did you think of that?

He always said that he was afraid of showmances and all that, but he never did anything to come after us. Also when he sent me out and said that he didn’t want another showmance to win, I didn’t like how he had said that because I feel like near the end there I proved myself as an [individual] player winning three PoVs. Zach had been gone for a while and I was a single player, and I feel like that discredited me a little bit. I get where it is coming from, the showmances, whatever. (Laughs.)

Let’s bring up the three Vetoes. Were you trying to win competitions in the early going, or did you just turn it on when you needed to?

The only competition that I really did throw would be the first real HoH Wall-To-Wall. I don’t think that I could have outlasted Bobby in the end, but I could’ve stayed up longer. I think in a lot of other competitions I maybe didn’t try as hard as I could because my back wasn’t up against the wall, but I didn’t necessarily just thrown the comps. I could’ve tried a little bit harder, though.

Have you told Zach at any point that you would have taken Pilar to the final two over him?

Zach kind of knew that when it came down to it, it was kind of an unspoken thing between us. He had a really good social game and relationships with people, and he knew that he wouldn’t beat me, and he knew that I was smart enough at the end to take Pili over him and he respected that. He told me regardless, he would have taken me. He thought that he could beat me, so he’s probably telling the truth there.

After Brittnee’s special power basically took your HoH away, how did you keep your cool and not get too upset?

Honestly, I did feel super-defeated at that point. I know it’s ‘Big Brother,’ and you can never be too sure. Even when you’re HoH you can’t be sure what is going to happen! Blowing up would have done nothing for me. I just kept my cool and turned it on and tried to fix [what happened in the aftermath of the twist].
