‘Big Brother Canada’ season 4: Will it be renewed? Also, what we’d like to see

BB -Tonight marked the end of “Big Brother Canada 3,” and we imagine that at the time you are reading this, you know very well who the winner is. If not, SPOILER ALERT! Move away from your computer at rapid speed.

Still with us? Well, Sarah Hanlon is the victor, and with that she takes home $100,000 and all of the other sponsored goodies. This article is not really about her win, though, as we’ll have more on that in the morning. Instead, we want to talk season 4. Will it happen? We’re for the time being optimistic. While the ratings for the show did not improve astronomically with the move to Global, it stayed fairly consistent throughout, and we also feel like all of the excess revenue in advertising, both on the show and on the official site, general a ton of additional revenue. This is a series with some legs, since it is fairly cost-effective as far as television series go.

With all of this said … we’d actually like to see the show move back to cable (specifically to Slice) for the fourth season. Maybe we’re in the minority with that, but it allowed for a raunchier, crazier show in between Arlie’s butt, stronger curse words, and much more drinking on the air. We feel like it was therefore a more accurate depiction of the feeds as a result of all of that. One of the reasons we feel like the show was an immediate hit was that it was edgier than its CBS counterpart, and there was a big “family hour” shift this season, whether it be due to the network move or specific requirements handed down by sponsors.

We’re not going to complain about the incessant corporate tie-ins since the keep the show on the air, so instead, let’s talk about twists. What we love about them is that they shake things up, and you need to have a few of them to add some spice. However, let’s try to avoid them after the jury. Bringing back Sindy was fine to us since there was a lot of time left in the game; the triple eviction and Brittnee’s power were a little much, especially since the latter completely nullified Ashleigh’s Head of Household and she did not even get to play in the next one. Also, it was a fan vote, and we don’t like to see fans get that much control near the end of the game.

One last thing we’d change is a simple editing tweak: Stop giving cliffhangers when it comes who wins Head of Household unless it is an endurance or something you cannot show on air in a few minutes. Everyone watching the feeds already knows. There’s no point.

Overall, we do give the production team a ton of credit. They work their buns off year in and year our to create a great show, and the competitions and the house are second to none. This is probably our least-favorite BB Canada season in terms of personal preference, but this does not take away from so much of what they continue to do right. So stay tuned tomorrow for finale interviews, and let’s set sail to the future!
