David Letterman’s iconic ‘Late Show’ set taken away in preparation of Stephen Colbert show
It is amazing just how much things can change within the span of just a couple of days. One day, David Letterman can be hosting “The Late Show,” one of the most-iconic series on all of television. Then, we are having a chance to see the show stripped apart into many pieces and then sent along its way.
This is precisely what happened on Thursday, when a demolition crew came in and starting to take apart various bits and pieces of the set, with a whole lot of it going ultimately into the garbage. According to the New York Daily News, Letterman did take a few items for himself, and we imagine that there could be other parts of it that end up at a museum like the Smithsonian or maybe at Letterman’s famed alma mater in Ball State.
Ultimately, much of this inevitably has to be done in order to prepare for the fall, which is when Stephen Colbert is going to swoop in to become the new host of “The Late Show.” He will almost certainly bring a wide array of his own ideas and people to the table, and there will be a brand-new set built for him before that time. What that will look like is still very interesting to us, given that so much of his “Colbert Report” set was self-parody and not really meant to be a reflection on his own personality.
The new version of the show will be starting in September, but given public interest in all things late-night TV, we’re pretty sure that we will be hearing a whole lot more about it before that time.
