ABC’s ‘Castle’ renewed for season 8; what is Stana Katic’s status?
Isn’t tonight turning into a lively affair over at ABC? We’ve already heard about many cancellations, so let’s cross the bridge now over to some things that we know people really care about: Renewals!
Let’s begin with this news: “Castle” is officially coming back for another season! Well, that is the good news. The bad news is that we still do not know the status of Stana Katic, whose contract is up and she has yet to sign another one. You can probably take the renewal as a sign that something will get done, given that Nathan Fillion has already signed a deal and we have seen many other examples over the years of actors signing contracts well after renewals. Just last yet, “The Big Bang Theory” cast (or at least most of them) did not sign on until shortly after the original production start date. Suffice it to say, there is a lot of time to get something done here, and the majority of the time, it does.
For now, at least rejoice in the fact that the show is coming back, even if it could look different even if Stana returns. Show creator Andrew Marlowe, writing partner Terri Edda Miller, and showrunner David Amann are all set to depart for other endeavors, so there will be a new creative team at the helm.
There are also some other details to be worked out, including if this is the final season, how many episodes it will be, and if it will air in the same timeslot after “Dancing with the Stars.” We will probably start to learn a little more about that come the upfronts next week.
For now, share your reactions to the news below, and head over here to read our recent story on all the cancellations. Also, sign up here to get some other TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)
Update: There is a line in a new Hollywood Reporter story that says Stana signed on. We’re inclined to believe that, but at the same time, Deadline is reporting otherwise. For now, we’re going to stand by our initial report that her status is up in the air, since many reports are saying that she is not on board just yet.

I am thrilled that Stana has signed otherwise I wouldn’t have watched anymore don’t get me wrong I really like Castle but one without the other would ruin it. That said I loved last night’s episode ******* stars in my book. In my opinion last night’s episode had it all murder, intrigue, family, friendship. It was heartwarming (Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller really know how to do it right) they have a certain signature I really wish they were staying. The speech was the icing on the cake (like the night Ryan and Espo were rescued from the burning building) and they all came together at the end. Heartwarming

ABC is not completely in the dark. They must realize that No Stana, No Castle. Maybe they are making an offer she cannot refuse. Is one of her requests to have Marlowe on board.?
Something is wrong here.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, In House Politics and power plays.
But that’s the Hollywood system anyway.

Interesting that THR prints info that is not verified and calls it news! Obviously most of these on line media feeds are just printing rumours and can’t take the time to verify the information they put out! What a way to insult readers and fans of the various shows! They say Ms. Katic has signed a contract and even name a new show runner and the rush back within hours and “edit” their story! Perhaps they should try to get the facts before jerking the readers around! How disgusting!

Stana, please renew!! Castle won’t be Castle without Beckett. ABC has to know that, which gives me hope that Stana WILL sign and Kate will be back.
