‘The Simpsons’ renewed on Fox until season 28; Homer Simpson offers up statement
We all thought that “The Simpsons” was going to be gone following its landmark 25th season; this is what we get for underestimating Homer and company. Today, it was confirmed that Fox has renewed the animated staple for two more seasons, which means that it will be around at least until the end of season 28. Ratings-wise, there was never any real reason to worry about the show coming back. The only real bit of drama was ensuring that the cast of voice actors would be returning, and it turns out that this will be the case.
In honor of the show officially hitting our airwaves yet again, Fox decided to offer up a statement from none other than Homer Simpson himself, who apparently is so much more of a pop-culture fanatic than we thought judging from all the references he makes in here.
“I’ve outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and ‘McDreamy,’ because I have something they don’t: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction.”
There are always going to be questions about how long a show like this can last, but the simple answer here is really however long the creators want to keep making it. Maybe the show ends at season 30 or when one of the main actors decides that they want to retire the role, though in theory you could try to hire someone new. (Whether or not that would go over well is a subject up for debate.)
At this point, what we know is that by the end of this renewal, there will be more than 600 episodes of the series, which broadcasts its repeats over on FXX.
