ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 finale spoilers: What’s the big Stana Katic storyline?
If you’ve been reading many headlines regarding “Castle” over the past couple of weeks, then you may know that the finale this season is entitled “Hollander’s Woods.” Not only that, but it revolves around an incident that happened there years ago that may have inspired Richard Castle to become an author. This was hinted at earlier this season when he was inquiring about his disappearance, but all of it is about to come back to the surface.
What has not been discussed at length too much, meanwhile, is the specific story for Kate Beckett. She is a woman who faces her own challenges, and they are made all the more important by the still-uncertain contract status of Stana Katic. As show creator / finale writer Andrew W. Marlowe explains to TVLine, there are multiple different focuses to where her story could be going, but all of them could leave her in a fascinating place by the time the hour comes to a close:
“We’ve been building this storyline for Beckett where she’s feeling a little bit like she needs to do something more, something a little bit bigger…. Where does she go with family? Where does she go with her career? So she’ll end up facing some choices in this that are a little bit unexpected, that may change the trajectory of where she’s going.”
The website is also reporting that there is at least a marginally-conclusive feeling to the finale, which should be good news for those of you afraid that the story is going to give you a massive cliffhanger a la season 6. With that being said, though, there will at least be a few hanging threads so that there will be something to start off with in the event the show returns. (Regardless of Stana’s status, Nathan Fillion resigning is a big shunk of evidence it will.)

There are so many rumors now,and I think we just have to wait for the ABC press release. I also feel that Castle without Beckett will be difficult, they are married,so how to explain her not being in the show, will be weird and difficult. Splitting them up has not been so smart, the audience want to see them together.
So I am X fingers and toes for season 8

As I presently feel no Stana no Castle. I might watch 1 or 2 episodes but I think that there will not be the same spark as now exists between Stana and Nathan. I do not believe that the Castle character is strong enough to carry the show alone and any substitute for Stana will be a disappointment to experienced fans.
I also believe that the new bucket lists and career plans being developed by Beckett and Castle can be the springboard for any number of Beckett character developments – could be asked and named to fill the remainder of Bracken’s Senate post, could be promoted to Captain, could have children, could return to college to become a lawyer, could remain a senior detective, could become a partner with Castle in a P. I. firm, could retire and move to the Hamptons with Castle and raise children, etc. Most of these new careers would put her in a safer position with regular hours that would make raising children more plausible though probably not as much fun.

I agree that there are a million directions the show could go if Stana stays. But if she leaves… what then? The powers that be could try to replace her, but Stana/Beckett are some really big shoes to fill and no one out there would even come close to filling them.

If Beckett has a kid, that will be the last episode millions of guys will ever watch.
Better to keep it a light crime drama with Beckett being promoted to Captain – a possibility that the show has already hinted at.

If Stana leaves the show, there is no show. Without Beckett there is no Castle. If she doesn’t sign on for another season, i think the show is dead in the water. Anyone else agree?

I believe Stana and Nathan will be back for one more Season. I also agree with you that they both make the show. If Nathan decides to stay on, I don’t believe he will bring in the same numbers as now. Time will tell.

I agree, they also need to be true to the characters,he is very supportive of her going for Captain and moving up the ladder. So if they split them, etc for this reason would be suicide. He has said she is the love of his life. She is there for him always.
The whole idea of this show is this couple and their journey.
If he starts dating or whatever they would do with his character to fill in the blanks would loose most of their following.
I am sure I did not say this all right…..but it is how I feel.

Agree. If Beckette leaves so might the Castle connection to the NYPD and then what? Castle as a P. I. ? I doubt it. Castle as a writer? I do not want to watch him type for an hour.
