‘Scream Queens’ spoilers: New look at Lea Michele’s character

In the time leading up to her filming “Scream Queens,” Lea Michele had said that one of the main reasons for her excitement about this role was the opportunity for her to do something that was effectively a complete 180 on anything that she did on “Glee.” We knew that Rachel Berry was an outcast, but not in the same way that her character Hester is here. (Yes, we are already curious if this is an intentional reference to The Scarlet Letter.)

You can see the first photo of the character below (at least as she is going to appear on the show) via Entertainment Weekly, and executive producer Ryan Murphy makes it clear that she is a potentially-demented character with questionable taste in fashion to boot:

“Her name is Hester … She plays a girl with scoliosis and a neckbrace, whose nickname is Neckbrace—Emma’s character just calls her “Neckbrace.” It’s a real Eve Harrington part for Lea. This girl wants everything Chanel (Emma Roberts) has and will do anything to get it. Lea calls it her Charlize Theron Monster moment. We won’t let her put on any make up and she wears these horrible 1995 tracksuits. But there’s a great turn that happens half-way through the season with that character.” 

The biggest feeling that we have at the moment is that there will be pressure on both Lea and Ryan to try to make this character stand out as much as possible, and be an iconic part of a show with huge expectations.

“Scream Queens” will most likely not premiere until at least September. That should give you an idea already of just what the stakes for this series are.
