‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11, episode 21: On Patrick Dempsey, ‘leaving’ rumors, and ‘How to Save a Life’
Tonight’s episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” is big and if you are a long time fan of the show then it’s one you don’t want to miss. The sneak peek below, the second one revealed by ABC, offers up some further insight into how the accident happens that leaves Derek in a position of doctor and on-scene paramedic at the same time. It is a shortcut while on the way to the airport, and it’s a situation that we have all heard about many times before: Some jerk driver causing an accident because they are in way too much of a hurry.
The sneak peek speaks for itself, so there is no real need to spend an enormous amount of time discussing that. Instead, let’s move into some of the other news of the week, starting with this: While we cannot tell you if Patrick Dempsey is leaving the show, if he does just know that it is not because of any sort of behavior on set. The New York Post tried to claim this to be truth recently, but there’s no real merit to it. If he was so terrible to work with, wouldn’t they have gotten rid of him a long time ago?
What we do know about Dempsey is this: Car racing seems to be his real passion at this point in time, while “Grey’s Anatomy” is more of his job. That doesn’t mean that he has to hate his job; he could really enjoy it. We also know that he does technically have a contract for next season, but writing him out could both free up his schedule and potentially save the show some money.
The truth on all of these stories eventually does come out, and we’re sure that we’ll hear more from Dempsey and the show’s producers over time if he does eventually leave. All we ask is to not kill off another character or devastate Meredith too much more. There’s something to be said for having a real life with real pain, but there is also so much drama that it becomes melodramatic.
