‘American Idol XIV’: Harry Connick Jr. speaks out about Quentin Alexander dispute
It is a little surprising that a story from Wednesday night’s “American Idol XIV” is episode is still worthy of getting a little bit of play, but this is ultimately where we are right now with Quentin Alexander and his back-and-forth with Harry Connick Jr. after this past new episode. For whatever reason, these are two people who did not see eye to eye on whether Quentin was being ungrateful after calling the situation “wack” that his fellow singers Joey Cook and Rayvon Owen were in singing for their lives.
At the time, we felt like Harry was not exactly understanding what Quentin was saying and decided to make a big TV moment out of it. Based on what Harry told “Extra” after the episode aired, we still more or less feel this way:
“When I heard the phrase ‘This whole thing is wack,’ that did surprise me. I was surprised than anyone who’s had this opportunity would say it … I think he seems like a really nice guy, and I think he got caught up. It’s happened to all of us…moving on.”
We do think that Quentin was a little bit caught up in the moment, and he said something that you could have some different interpretations of. However, at the same time we feel like the move there for Harry should have been instead of coming down on the singer himself, allowing America to pass judgment on it. That way, he does not take any heat himself, and it is up to Quentin then to explain his interpretation of the comments.
Maybe this story will die after the next new episode airs. For now, who do you side with? Share below, and head over here to get some further “American Idol” scoop! Also, you can sign up here to get some other TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Fox.)

Again, Quentin being Quentin-body language showed – He was ASKED by RSecreast what he was feeling; he responded. Harry was over zealous; no mention was made last week; I’m sure they spoke of it among themselves; again-this week he was asked a question and not sure of the intent he had a quizzical reaction, as if-‘don’t have me go into muddled waters’. I think Harry for whavever reason-was negative to Quentin than others. Coming from LA he should have an appreciation of the lingo and intrepretation. Certainly not the stony silence as a judge -my opinion of him has most definately changed. I don’t care what he sang last week. be fair to the contestants and give contrstuctive criticism-all he ever told Quentin was ‘he was off key’ and he did the number well. I get it. Quention came across more ‘smiley’ and warm-despite being voted off, he will do well.

Turned my recoder off Idol. It was obvious that Harry wanted him out with the pre-planned out-of-tune-autotune comment that went on and on, and the producers wanted him out by replaying Rayvon’s highlights and not Quentin’s, and by putting Rayvon last and giving him big, sweeping praise. We’re not stupid. This was unforgivable. Quentin was the only interesting contestant, and they purposefully excluded him from the tour. Worse, they wrongfully sullied his reputation.

Harry Connick Jr was totally out of line to create such an upheaval. Quentin is only 21 and new to the “stage and limelight”. Harry is just either drunk or doping or nuts; take your pick.

It was an unnecessary attack on a 21 year-old young man who was upset to see one of his friends going home in an emotional competition. My guess is Harry wanted him to get voted out next because he surely has made that happen.

Harry learned well from his father, who is unapologetic about the innocent men that he railroaded into the electric chair. No way Harry Jr. is going to put up with any lip from a black boy.

Harry called him out and what Quentin was saying is that his new friends shouldn’t be in the bottom. Basically saying that America got it wrong. Glad Harry brought him back down and he’ll be gone now for sure. Can’t sing anyway and has been surviving on his antics. Party is over pal.

Harry assumed and made an ass out of himself.

He is one of the worse singers left in the competition. It’s time for him to go.

The music industry is hard enough as it is. Someone like this is already trouble to deal with. Hopefully he gets elimated soon as just goes away.
