ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 spoilers: Latest on Stana Katic – Nathan Fillion contract negotiations
Does ABC want to bring back “Castle” for another season? We definitely feel confident at the moment that they do for a variety of reasons, with the most notable one being simply that cancellation-wise, they have so many other fish to fry. “Revenge” looks to be almost dead, “Secrets & Lies” is on its way out most likely, Tuesday nights are somewhat of a mess, and “American Crime” is almost certainly a goner. There are enough shows that need to be canceled elsewhere that there’s no real reason to end this one yet … provided that the contract crisis for Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic can be worked out.
So what is the latest on the situation? Ultimately, it’s not necessarily bad news, but it is not great news either. According to TVLine, the two are in “deep negotiations” right now on returning for another season, and this one could go “down to the wire.” This means to us that there are still some things that need to be worked out here, but the fact that there are negotiations at all means that all parties involved want to make more episodes of the show happen.
The vast majority of the time, cast negotiations do work out. Sure, there is occasionally a situation like Cote de Pablo and “NCIS,” but Thomas Gibson once signed on for more “Criminal Minds” days before production started. The cast of “The Big Bang Theory” employed something similar leading up to the start of this season before securing new three-year deals. If there is enough confidence that deals will be done, we imagine that a renewal will happen.
Hopefully, we’ll figure out some more information one way or another before the ABC upfront in May.

This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. Just knowing they are negotiating means they still want to continue.

Sounds more promising than it has in the past few months. Has reasoning behind it as well – one of the few ABC series that shows a fairly stable and sure market. Hard negotiations I would suspect with the cast wanting more money and, at the same time, having slight reduction in viewers. This can be improved, however, by avoiding fiascos like 6×23. Shows promise, too, with development of bucket lists by Castle and Beckett and development of a career plan by Beckett – lot of new promise in development of themes of episodes and a new overall plan for the future (return of more emphasis on Beckett, family life, involvement of total cast, etc ?)
