‘Blue Bloods’ season 5, episode 20 review: Frank stands behind the badge

For whatever reason, there is something comforting about Frank Reagan’s consistency on “Blue Bloods.” Even when you know how he is going to react in a given moment, you still like to see put down the hammer of the law.

Sometimes, it is not always easy for him, and that includes trying to do the right thing when he hears about an old friend and current politician being arrested for a DUI. Of course, he wants to keep it out of the press. Frank is not a malicious man; he does not want to do anything that is going to destroy someone’s reputation, but at the same time the job is the job, and crimes are crimes. Sometimes, there is little that he can do to stop the turning tide.

As for elsewhere in the episode, the Danny – Baez storyline to us was an interesting one, mostly because you were dealing with a complex case involving celebrity chefs, unpaid rent, and mysterious motives. We also had a fine example of how few things are perfect in this world, especially when compared to many others that you tend to see on TV. The majority of the time, someone going undercover does not lead in a hand being stabbed or anything else terrible happening. It does here. This show remains gritty and realistic, with this being another example of it.

As a whole, we found this episode to be largely riveting, though not the most difficult or shocking one of the series. Danny’s story was stronger than usual, and when it comes to Frank, we wish it was not so close to make plots we have seen before. Grade: B-.
