‘The Amazing Race 26’ episode 6 preview: The smell of success

Let’s start this “Amazing Race” article off with a surprising admission: We’re enjoying this season way more than we expected that we would going into it. We’re not saying that this is particular amazing, but we expected with this blind-date twist that we would be wanting to throw something at our TV by now. Sure, there are still problems aplenty: We are not necessarily in love with the rampant product placement, and there is zero point to Date Night if the majority of the teams are not acting in a particularly romantic way.

What surprises us most about the sneak peek below is how dismissive Tyler of Laura & Tyler seems to be of Mike & Rochelle in the middle of what seems to be a perfume-related task in Monaco. He acts as though if they get ahead now, he’ll be able to catch up to them later. We understand that Team Truck Stop is not going to out-sprint anyone in a footrace, but remember here that Josh & Brent and the Sweet Scientists have won the race before. These teams were probably a little more athletic than Mike in particular, but they showed that you don’t have to look like you live in a gym 365 days a year to do well on this show. You just need to survive and do really well on one leg.

Anyway, it seems that both these teams and Jeff & Jackie are struggling mightily with this task, which reminds us almost of some of those taste-testing challenges that we’ve seen where teams have to identify specific cheeses or meat. It’s deceptively hard, since there are subtle differences. Sometimes, a process-of-elimination strategy is best.
