‘True Detective’ season 2 spoilers: See Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell in first trailer
Sunday, June 21 is a day that all fans of “True Detective” should have on their radar. After all, this is when the HBO series is returning after a substantial wait to start to air some of the first new episodes of season 2. There is a dark, mysterious, and complex season ahead, even if we don’t have anything about antlers, beer cans, or the Yellow King in the first trailer HERE.
Instead, what we have for you is fairly simple: A look at Colin Farrell sporting a heck of an awesome mustache, and also Vince Vaughn leaping into the dramatic spotlight in a role as a career criminal in crisis that could change his entire career. The cast is rounded out with Kelly Reilly, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch. This is a show that is looking to match the hype and the expectations of season 1, which was an excellent portrayal of what obsession and a search for the truth can really do over the span of many years.
Was the first season perfect? Not entirely. We felt like the final episode was a little too ethereal for its own good, and spent so much time focusing on an atmosphere that it forgot at times to tell a story. What that taught us was that creator Nic Pizzolatto (who writes every episode of this show) is an extremely ambitious man, and he is willing to take huge risks in order to get huge rewards. In casting Vaughn, he has already taken one huge risk this season.
We will have some further news on “True Detective” most likely long before the show premieres. It would not be like HBO to just release one trailer, and then not put out anything else until June.
For now, let us know what you think about the trailer in the comments! (Photo: HBO)
