‘Beyond the Tank’: First look at ‘Shark Tank’ spin-off series (video)
Did “Shark Tank” really need a spin-off focusing more on the businesses after they have completed a deal? That is something we are somewhat torn about at the moment. One of the real reasons why is that the original concept of the show is so golden; you meet a product and those pitching the product, and then you learn whether or not a deal is made. Then, down the road you get to see an update segment for some of these businesses that manage to fare really well.
So what is the purpose of “Beyond the Tank”? Superficially, it is a chance to see a more organic look at how some of these businesses move forward from the show and try to make a name for themselves with the guidance of the shark they chose to work with. This includes sometimes the real struggles that these businesses go through after the fact. In some ways, it may seem that getting tons of attention from the show can be wonderful; however, it can create huge backlogs, server downtime, and other issues that if you are not prepared to handle them, you could lose many of the customers you are about to gain.
The success of this show may depend on its format. We don’t really want to see a show where businesses get a deal, and then are thrown through the fire. We don’t mind conflict and struggle, but we would like to see it presented with the same sort of inspirational tone we get from the original.
Ultimately, the market (like with any other business) will speak to the results of this show when it premieres Friday, May 1. Take a look at the first promo below.
What do you think about the idea of this show, and do you think that we can really mine great enjoyment from companies we have already seen on “Shark Tank”? Share with a comment.

Beyond the Tank isn’t only for companies that got a deal but will also show people that were turned down and walked away with no deal.
