‘The Good Wife’ season 6, episode 17 review: An email hack devastates the firm

Tonight, we had Florrick, Agos and Lockhart be referred to as a “pirate ship” on “The Good Wife,” and there was a good reason for it: The entire episode started off going in one direction courtesy of lawsuits and a mediation, and ended with the entire firm suffering a massive email hack that could devastate them to the point that many of their clients jumped ship. We are not going to say that this was as bad as what happened to Sony, but it would not surprise us if it ever came out that the technology giant was the inspiration for this story.

Not only is this bad for Alicia in terms of her work life, it’s catastrophic as she tries to begin work as a State’s Attorney. She is already suffering enough trying to please everyone, in particular Guy Redmayne, who is stuffed to the brim with ideas as to what she should do and when. Ultimately, though, he is little more than a man just shouting loud enough so that all can hear him.

To say all of this is compelling is a massive understatement. Our fear going into this was that following what transpired with the election, there would not be another meaty story for a while. This story proved that the writers are here to play and they want to keep you pulled in. It turns out that this may be one of the more impossible situations that the firm has found itself in yet. No one on the team is accustomed to dealing with this sort of attack.

While we do not know yet why Kalinda could ultimately decide to depart the firm, we would say for the time being that this could be a very substantial motivation. Grade: B+.
