ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7: The latest on season 8 negotiations

For “Castle” fans, there are almost two separate games going on: There is the wait to find out who was responsible for kidnapping Rick at the end of last season (you should get at least some more information in a few episodes), and there is also the wait to learn whether or not the show is going to be back for an eighth season. We imagine that there are a few different steps that go into this. First, ABC’s executives have to figure out if they want the show (which has had slightly lower ratings this season) back; then, they also have to figure out how to secure the cast. After both of these are checked off, then they will likely announce the renewal.

In some cases, there have been shows renewed before new contracts are finalized, but typically this happens when a network is confident that a deal will get done. Based on what “Castle” star Seamus Dever told TVLine, negotiations with the cast have not even begun completely yet:

“…As far I’ve heard, there’s no indication that we’re going to go anywhere; it’s just a matter of getting everybody at the table and finding out. Nobody’s talked to me about [re-signing for] Season 8, so that’s where I’m standing. And I’d like some answers, because my mother-in-law is very concerned that I’m going to have to get a teaching job. [Laughs] It’d be nice to get some answers soon.”

We do feel like it will happen in the near future, mostly because we also feel like the show will be renewed. While there may not be many more years left for Dever, Nathan Fillion, and the rest of the cast, we do think that another year or two will give fans the ending they deserve.
