‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: On Stefan, Damon’s mother drama

Vampire Diaries -Over the course of “The Vampire Diaries” this past week, we started to really understand more of who Lily Salvatore is as a character. At the same time, we also started to get a further sense of what she lacks … and much of that is normalcy. How could she have it given that she was trapped in the past, and also a ripper at the same time? These are not easy things to move past.

With all of this in mind, it is certainly fare to say that Damon and Stefan are going to have a hard time having a seemingly-normal relationship with her. This is something that Annie Wersching (who plays Lily) confirms to Entertainment Weekly, starting that part of the real problem here stems from the hurt feelings that she ultimately have about her own past actions:

“She has a lot of torment inside of her … And then adding this guilt that she feels for what the boys think of her and think that she did to them, [it] really messes with her.”

Wersching does tease that these characters could eventually come a little bit closer to what is thought of as a slightly-more-functional relationship, even though that may take a little bit of time. In other words, there’s hope, though her comments are not much of a guarantee at all for a happy ending.

Above all else, the main focus right now may be on bringing Stefan back from his present state. If there is anyone who can help him find that inner humanity, it should be someone who not only has a similar sort of past personal connection to him, but also someone who has experienced much of what he is going through.

Unfortunately, you will be waiting for a while to see what happens next, as “The Vampire Diaries” will not be returning to TV until April.
