‘Reign’ season 2, episode 18 preview: Will Mary step up without Francis?
There are times in life where you must really push yourself beyond your traditional limits. For Mary on “Reign,” you may be seeing one of those times in the relatively near future. One of the major themes on the next new episode (airing on Thursday, April 16) is going to be seeing whether or not Adelaide Kane’s character will be fully prepared for the responsibilities that await her while Francis’ health remains in question.
She certainly seems to be strong enough in this promo … but it is only just a brief moment that we see her! She has been through a whole lot this season in between Conde and Francis, and this will eventually start to take its toll on her.
Ultimately, what we really hope for from the rest of this season is seeing her continue more and more to step into her natural place, and figure out just what it really means to rule. Suffice it to say, this is not going to be a very easy transition for her, and we more than expect a few more complications every step the rest of the way.
All of this is going to in the end build to a great finale, which in turn is going to set up and introduce on the series the Queen Elizabeth character. She ultimately is going to be a huge part of the third season, as we start to see more and more of the dynamics between England and France play out over time.

It would interesting if Francis and Elizabeth fell madly in love leaving Mary trying to win him back and realizing she made a huge mistake with Conde.

Mary needs to realize who her true love is. The one who would do anything for her. Francis. Condes true colors will soon show. And Francis will survive his illness.

I miss Francis and Mary. The writers are turning her into someone I no longer like. I feel bad for Francis, if he dies I hope she feels horrible for her actions.

Ok, I see that many people are upset that Mary slept with Conde, and see it as a selfish betrayal to her loving husband Francis, but did everyone forget Francis was not always loving, kind or faithful to Mary. I realize that he was the Dauphin and now a King of France. However, they have been married for less than a year and the following events occurred that directly affected Mary. Francis slept with some random girl that was part of Catherine’s flying squad when Mary first arrived at court. He told her to be with Thomas Prince of Portugal, when he could not get his father to spare 6 companies of men to help secure her country, even though they were allies. Francis told her on many occasions that he could not marry her yet, because it was not right for France at the time. Later on his ex Olivia returns to court and he sleeps with her, not bothering to hide it from Mary, when confronted by Mary he threatens to keep Olivia as a mistress because Mary asked for her to be removed from the castle. Next, Francis suggested that Mary be free to see other people in season one as long as it was not Bash, since they were rulers and could not afford to love and be distracted. Mary then finds out about the prophecy and risks her own happiness to ensure Francis does not die do to their union by trying to marry his brother Bash. After Francis learns of the prophecy and why Mary had taken that stance, he leaves the castle of his own choice and he sleeps with her lady Lola and produces a son. The same son now resides in the castle with them as a constant reminder of the child Mary does not have and his infidelity with Lola. Francis even left Mary to rule alone over France during the plague, and went to be with Lola while she gave birth to his child. I am sure his heart was in the right place but OUCH!! While Francis was being blackmailed by Narcisse he let Mary believe he was unhappy with her for not producing an heir which was very hurtful, since she had already suffered a miscarriage and did not tell Francis until later on that evening in order not to spoil the christening of his illegitimate son with her lady Lola; if that is not selfless then I do not know what is, Conde was by Mary’s side for this. Mary pleaded with Francis to tell her what was going on and he shut her out. Mary was later raped in the castle, by men who wanted to tarnish the crown, for Francis’s treatment of the Protestants (do to Narcisse’s influence). Mary then began to distance herself from Francis. Conde was her safe place where she did not have to put up walls, he was with her when she confronted her attacker and killed him, I would say that would make a bond between anyone (not necessarily a romance that is just the CW’s writing style). Her mother came to court to drop the bomb that Mary needed to produce an heir or she could end up like King Henry VIII’s wives since without an heir she was a disposable Queen, she tells her mother of the attack, and her mother’s attitude is, things happen your a Queen deal with it, oh yeah by the way i’m dying. After all of this Francis sleeps with Narcisse’s niece of all people last week; that is if she really was his niece, remember the wife he kept in a cage. Did he forget that Narcisse blackmailed him and threatened to make sure that his head along with Mary and his mother’s would end up on a pike, why take the risk, there were plenty of women available to choose from. Mary has cheated once throughout all of this, and I am not happy about it, but at least she told Francis the truth, which is more than I can say for him.
Do to this I am not snowed by Francis’s latest actions. He feels guilty, for his role in the events that took place, and he can be as loving as he wants, but it will not negate his past actions.

What show did you watch??? Was not like that at all. Francis was sent to exile when Mary chose to marry Bash….that was when he met up with Lola, thinking he would never see Mary again. Mary also was going to marry Prince Tomas to save her country …and Francis was in love with her then, but because he cared about her and her country was willing to let her go. Though it was him who asked around court to find out he was mean and beat his wives. When Francis slept with Olivia it was because Mary pushed him away. Needless to say, all of this happened when he was NOT married to Mary! Mary also was the one who had Narcisse son put in with the people infected with the plague, so he died and Narcisse was angry and began the blackmailing of Francis. Telling Francis that Mary, Catherine and his son would have their heads on the stake if he did not do as he was told by Narcisse. Francis Always tried to protect Mary. She on the other hand cheated on Francis while married with Conde! Yes Francis was with Narcisse Niece, but he did not want it, Mary already released him. So not sure how you dont see this. :)

Toby Regbo (Francis) was best thing about Reign. If they write him off, I probably won’t watch anymore :o(

I am disappointed in this story arch. I don’t expect that everything would be rosy between Francis and Mary. But the character development is poor. Instead of Mary becoming stronger, she is unrecognizable and weaker. I was hoping that the rape arch would somehow be vindicated and Mary become stronger and better. Instead she goes to the comfort of another man, despite what she says. Mary stronger with Conde, I think not. Loyalties tested and failed. Off with her head.

I love where Reign is at right now, she is obviously worried and will grieve Francis if he passes wth… She is not heartless or cold, she just loves another and she will always care for Francis sheesh.

Poor Francis! The writers were heartless to unfold the story as they did…Francis collapses as Mary romances Conde. That was cruel; cruel to the characters and cruel to the audience! The real Mary wrote heartbreaking poetry after Francis died. The character of Mary has become cold, selfish and faithless! How is that following history??
