‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 17 review: Stefan and Caroline’s romp; Damon searches for Lily
While there were multiple story threads on “The Vampire Diaries” Thursday night, there was one that really stood out above all else: Lily Salvatore. The return of Damon’s mother involved a journey through time, and this was never a happy mother / son reunion. Instead, it was more about Damon’s quest to ensure that he could get Stefan back after he flipped off the humanity switch at the end of this past episode.
Clearly, Stefan had no real interest in actually taking part in all of this, given that he had a vampire bender of sorts with Caroline. They slept together and then some, and are out having the destructive time of their lives. Great news for them, and then terrible news for everyone else.
Speaking of terrible news, Damon still has not figured out everything with his mother, even if Elena seems to be very interested in seeing this new side of them. They both know that she is not the same person she once was, but she is an interesting part of his past.
What may be the most interesting part of this story in the long-term is seeing whether or not Damon will be able to focus on Bonnie’s surprising gift to him at the end of this episode: The cure for vampirism. He now has a chance to use it on Elena, provided of course that he actually wants her to be cured of what current ails her. Grade: B-.
