‘House of Lies’ season 4, episode 9 review: Marty, Jeannie come together over dinner
As it turns out, there is still a way for Marty and Jeannie to find a little bit of peace on “House of Lies.” It just involved the two of them deciding that they were going to stop being childish about their relationship failings and their unborn child.
To a certain extent, we get Marty’s anger. We get that he was betrayed in an enormous way; he was sent to prison because of her! He lost time with his family and his company thanks to her actions, and no apology for a while could be enough. However, somewhere along the way tonight he realized that at this point, there is nothing that holding on to hatred will do to make his life better. His treatment of his former lover left her so vulnerable, she couldn’t handle his family being nice to him over dinner. She really was not used to it, and it made her uncomfortable.
Now, these two seem to have a warm sense of peace about them, and that should carry them forward, given that Jeannie is only a matter of weeks away from her due date as of moment. The two of them getting along will be better for business, especially since Marty needs almost all of the help he can get right now. He’s already starting to realize that what he did to get Kaan & Associates the upper hand over Ellis Hightower may not have been worth it.
Ultimately, we enjoyed the progress that was found in this particular installment of the show. We cannot say that it was wonderful comedy from start to finish, but we’ve been begging for a change between our two leads for quite some time. Grade: B.
