‘iZombie’ season 1 premiere review: Rose McIver has brains, brawn and beauty
We have been really excited about the premiere of “iZombie” and with there being a huge zombie craze right now (you can thank ‘The Walking Dead” for that) the expectations for this show are pretty high!
Pre-Zombie: So let’s start off with Liv our zombie girl. Before she became a zombie she was a medical resident with a very promising career and a super cute fiance named Major who was madly in love with her. He tells her to go and celebrate one night with some of her co-workers at a boat party – a party that very quickly becomes filled with Zombies attacking everyone and eating their brains.
Post-Zombie: After becoming infected, she gave up her residency and took up a job at the morgue (so that she could have access to brains). She also broke off her engagement with Major (fearful of giving the man she loves her infection) and her family is very concerned about her. The doctor working at the morgue with her, Ravi, figures out quite quickly that she’s a zombie and is eager to be her ally. Also, he wants to find a cure for her affliction and once she learns that, she starts to think that maybe she was too hasty to break up with Major. When she goes to his house to talk to him, she sees him hanging out with another girl and walks away.
Liv is also experiencing visions when she eats the brain of someone, which can help her figure out who some of the John (or Jane) Doe’s in the morgue are. Oh yeah… and when she eats someone’s brain, she will pick up a few traits of that person (like if the person liked to steal things, then she will start stealing things). She is passed off as a psychic to a cop named Clive who has been in homicide for two months without a collar, who starts to use her ability to solve murders.
This was a solid first outing for “iZombie” – We like the characters and feel that there is a lot of room for this show to grow. Also, we are kind of rooting for Liv and Ravi to hook up… too soon to ship? Episode grade: B-
Was the premiere of ‘iZombie” everything you hoped for? We will be covering the show all season so be sure to check in with us for more coverage of the show.
